DIY: How To Clean Thermos Flask Inside Out

Can't do without your thermos? Thermoses keep our beverages hot or cold for long periods, they are our saviours on regular days, during outdoor activities, travelling, and whatnot. But tell us, how often do you give your thermos a deep clean? Due to regular use, we do skip on giving our thermoses a good clean. It is imperative to clean a thermos to get rid of bacteria, stains, and odours. Here is a quick guide to clean your thermos inside and out.

How To Clean Thermos?

Tips To Wash Thermos

In a bowl, add a cup of warm water, 1 tbsp dish soap, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp white vinegar. Mix all the ingredients well. Using a cleaning brush or a sponge, start scrubbing the bottle from the inside and outside. Rinse thoroughly with hot water, and make sure the bottle has no soap residue. 

If the flask has stains on the outer layer, use baking soda (baking soda cleaning hacks) and water paste. Apply this paste to the bottle and let it sit for a couple of hours. Using a brush, scrub the bottle and then wash under running water. 

Getting Rid Of Thermos Odour

Odour is a big issue with thermoses. To get rid of the odour, prepare a solution of hot water and white vinegar. Mix well. Pour it into the bottle and let it sit overnight. Vinegar will help remove odours. Rinse with hot water. 

Cleaning Thermos With Boiling Water

Carefully pour boiling water into the thermos. Fill to the top and then close with a lid. Boiling water will help break down any residues or stains. Pour out the hot water and then rinse under running water.

Cleaning Thermos From Inside 

• Lemon is acidic and it helps break down stains and neutralise odour. 
• In a bowl, add hot water, and squeeze in lemon juice. 
• Add in a teaspoon of baking soda. 
• Mix well. 
• Pour the liquid into the thermos and let it sit for an hour. 

• Squeeze in some more lemon juice. 
• Use a bottle brush to scrub the interiors. The loose debris will now easily come off. 
• Rinse the thermos thoroughly under running water.

Hacks To Clean Thermos Cap

• It is a bit tricky to clean the thermos cap usually because it is smaller in size and some caps don't disassemble. 
• Instead of using a normal brush, use an old toothbrush to clean the bottle cap or get a small brush from the market. (Toothpaste cleaning hacks)
• Prepare soapy water, a mix of dishwashing liquid, and warm water. Mix well. 
• Dip the brush into the solution and start scrubbing off the inside and outside layers of the cap.
• You can also soak the cap in a bowl filled with warm soapy water and keep it overnight. 
• Rinse the cap under running warm water. 
• To remove odour, soak the cap in a solution of vinegar and water. 

Though these quick hacks will help you clean your thermos inside out, it is always a good idea to do a timely cleaning of the themoses to keep them odour and stain-free. Also, do check for the manufacturer’s manual before following these at-home hacks to prevent damaging your thermos.
