Cleaning cast iron utensils is quite different from regular utensils because they are at a higher risk of rusting and losing their top layer. Using harsh chemicals or scrubbing off the surface of these utensils with abrasive pads can lead to damage.
To maintain the longevity of cast iron utensils, you must clean them in the right way. So, here we thought of bringing you some easy home remedies to clean cast iron utensils.
Use Hot Water
Take a big bucket and add hot water. Soak in all the cast iron utensils in it for 15 minutes and then take them out. Gently scrub the surface to remove any buildup on the surface.
Apply Salt Paste
In a bowl, add salt and water and mix to make a paste. Apply this paste on the surface of the utensils, keep for a few minutes, scrub off with a sponge, and then rinse under running water.
Rub Some Oil
Take some oil and rub it over the cast iron utensil's surface. Keep it for a few minutes and then use a paper towel to wipe off the surface. Do this till there is no oil residue.
Apply Baking Soda Paste
In a bowl, add equal quantities of baking soda and water. Apply the paste on the surface of the cast iron utensil. Focus on the areas where the food is stuck. Let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub off gently with a sponge.
Soak In Vinegar
If your cast iron utensils have rust spots, prepare a solution of equal parts of water and white vinegar. Soak the utensils in this mixture for about 15 to 20 minutes. Take out and scrub the surface with a soft sponge. Rinse with hot water. (Vinegar uses outside kitchen)
Scrub With Salt
Sprinkle salt onto the surface of the cast iron utensil. Use a damp sponge to gently scrub off the residue on the surface. Wash off with regular water.
Use Raw Potato
Cut a raw potato into half and dip it in salt. Use the potato to scrub off the surface. Potatoes have natural enzymes that help remove debris and also maintain the longevity of the utensils.

Try Baking
Place the cast iron utensil upside down in an oven. Place it over a baking sheet or a foil so that it catches the excess oil of the cookware. Bake at 450 to 500 degrees for an hour. Allow the utensil to cool and then take it out.
