“Modern India is quite influenced by the Western world and likewise is the case of gender equality in domestic chores as well. He continued, “The traditional mindset that pertained in the Indian society was an unequal division of unpaid labour, which basically means women are held responsible for all the household chores. But now the mindsets have completely drifted towards gender equality. These circumstances will make the introduction of this app in the Indian settings extremely beneficial and fruitful!”

“India is an extremely diverse country, with families falling anywhere on the spectrum between traditionalism and modernism - which makes it difficult to give a blanket answer,” shared Shreya Iyer, Habit Coach Psychologist, ACE Personal Trainer at Alvye Health, India’s fastest-growing Health-tech platform.

She added, “An app which helps keep track of domestic chores may be accepted in the couples which have a more modern outlook, but would most likely face resistance among families that support the preservation of gender roles.”

“Furthermore, our childhood experiences carve our beliefs and normative ideals of how a relationship should look like, including division of responsibilities. We imitate our parental figures, a term in psychology known as role modelling.’ This would also be a factor that would influence the applicability of this app,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ashi Tomar, senior psychologist at Veda Rehabilitation & Wellness, said, “The Swedish app Accord, developed by engineering students, helps families divide domestic chores fairly by allowing users to assign, track, and monitor tasks. It also promotes accountability through reminders and fosters family discussions about shared responsibilities. Such a tool could be adapted to India, where gender disparities in household work are pronounced, with women often performing the majority of domestic work.”

Ashi Tomar pointed out, “I believe tools that help divide household responsibilities can transform relationships by supporting fairness and mutual respect. In India, where domestic chores often fall disproportionately on one partner, such systems encourage collaboration and open communication. They also serve as a reminder that managing a home is a shared responsibility, not an individual burden. While technology can play a role in organizing tasks, the real impact comes from the conversations it sparks and the understanding it builds. Adapted thoughtfully to Indian cultural and family dynamics, this approach can strengthen bonds and reduce stress in everyday life.”
