Slowly but steadily, attitudes toward the LGBTQ community have begun to shift in a positive direction, and a large part of the credit for this can be given to the way queer stories are being shown in films and web series.
However, we can't say that all movies and shows have been doing a great job at it because we've seen countless big-screen movies and series where queer characters are used just for laughs like in the movie Dostana, Kal Ho Naa Ho,.Partner, Student of the year, etc.
Unlike those movies, there are several beautifully depicted web shows that portray the LGBTQ community in a positive light. To know about these web-series, check out this list:
Made In Heaven
Where To Watch: Amazon Prime
With episodes directed by Nitya Mehra, Zoya Akhtar, Prashant Nair and Alankrita Shrivastava, ‘Made In Heaven’ received a lot of praise for a variety of reasons. Its depiction of class struggle, female characters, and the respectful representation of queer characters, free of stereotypes, was applauded.
The nine-episode show is about 2 wedding planners, Tara and Karan. The plot digs into the drama and havoc that goes into preparing for a big fat Indian wedding. However, it also highlights how insecurities, traumas, ambitions, and other factors shape a person's life.
The writers have done a fantastic job of exploring self-hatred and homophobia in this web-series.
Romil & Jugal
Where To Watch: ALT Balaji
Romil & Jugal, directed by Nupur Asthana, is a wonderful love story of two gay men named Romil and Jugal. It is a desi take on William Shakespeare's timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet, with a contemporary twist. The show is about two men who are completely in love with one another, but for their love story, a lot of obstacles are on the road. They have to deal with bigoted neighbours, parents who are disapproving as well as the internalized homophobia.
The couple has a terrific on-screen chemistry that is a pleasure to watch. It is a lighthearted show that you will surely enjoy.

The Married Woman
Where To Watch: ALT Balaji
Many people call Sahir Raza's web-series, "The Married Woman" a realistic and unapologetic show, and I couldn't agree more. The show is inspired by Manju Kapoor’ s novel, A Married Woman.
The film's plot centres around an Indian housewife Astha who feels trapped between her responsibilities and Piplika, a free-spirited character who does not conform to conventional standards and rules set by society. When these two women meet, they each discover their own identities and fall in love with each other.
This show, however, isn't only about finding love in an unconventional way; it's also about embarking on a journey of self-discovery.

His Storyy
Where To Watch: ALT Balaji
His Storyy is another great series that depicts the complexities of relationships while maintaining a perfect emotional balance. The plot revolves around Kunal, who leads a double life, loving his wife and two sons while having an affair with another guy.
The series sheds light on a critical conversation while presenting the taboo subjects with sensitivity.
You can watch these web shows with your friends, family, or even by yourself to understand the LGBTQ community better. We hope you found this story informative. Share your thoughts with us by commenting on our Facebook page. For more such stories, stay tuned to HerZindagi.
