Recently, Delhi’s air quality had turned worse when it touched a record level high with air quality in the severe zone. As the situation takes a dip further, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has declared the invocation of Stage IV of the GRAP in the entire NCR, along with the implementation of rules and regulations under stages I, II, AND III.
CAQM’s Statement
CAQM stated on Sunday, “Keeping in view the prevailing trend of air quality, and in an effort to prevent further deterioration of air quality in the region, the Sub-Committee today has taken the call to invoke all actions as envisaged under Stage IV of GRAP 'Severe Air Quality (Delhi's AQI 450), today with immediate effect in the entire NCR.”
While a fog blanket veils Delhi and Delhites breathe in what can be called poisonous air, know about the rules and regulations being the city. With Diwali approaching, one can only expect the condition to decline down the lane like every year. The average AQI in Delhi today is 471, although some areas like Anand Vihar recorded an AQI close to a thousand. You must keep these things in mind to ensure your health’s safety.
What Is GRAP-4?
Under the enforcement of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) -IV, heavy vehicles and Diesel-powered medium goods vehicles will remain banned from the streets of Delhi, along with the prohibition of construction activities like construction of road infrastructure.

There are four stages of GRAP. Group 1 is implemented between AQI 201 and 301. Group 2 comes into action when AQI falls between 301 and 400. Group 3 is for when AQI is between 401 and 450. Grape 4 is operative for when AQI is between 450 and 500 which essentially means that the situation is out of control.
According to the experts, the AQI may remain in the severe category for the next few days considering that the period of November 1-15 has been the worst in terms of air quality for Delhi in the last few years.
