For singles or people living alone, maintaining a clean home while juggling a busy lifestyle can often feel like a daunting task. The thought of dusting, sweeping, and mopping every day can be overwhelming, especially after a long day of work or study. Enter the Dreame D9 Max, a robot vacuum cleaner designed to help you keep your space tidy without the constant effort. Promising smart features like powerful suction, LiDAR navigation, and a user-friendly app, the Dreame D9 Max seems like the perfect solution for anyone looking to minimise time spent cleaning. After using it for several weeks, we found it delivers solid performance in many areas, though it does leave some room for improvement, especially in its mopping functionality.
Dreame D9 Max Gen 2 Robot Vacuum and Mop Review
Design and Setup
The Dreame D9 Max robot vacuum has a familiar, compact design that is easy to set up. It’s built with high-quality plastic and stands at a manageable height of about 4 inches, allowing it to fit under most furniture. The robot is equipped with a LiDAR sensor at the top, which scans the home to map out an efficient cleaning route. Upon initial setup, the app (Dreamehome) walks you through a simple procedure: connect the charging dock, add the device, and let the robot map your home. The initial scanning process took around 20 minutes in our case, depending on room size, and was fairly accurate in creating a comprehensive map of the space.
The setup process is smooth, and the app is intuitive, giving users the flexibility to label rooms, create no-go zones, and adjust cleaning preferences. For first-time users, the app simplifies the entire experience without requiring deep technical know-how.
Cleaning Performance: Strong Suction, But Mopping Could Improve
One of the standout features of the Dreame D9 Max is its 4000Pa suction power. Whether it’s dust, debris, or pet hair, this vacuum performs admirably in picking up messes from hard floors and low-pile carpets. The auto mode is particularly useful as the vacuum adjusts its suction power depending on the surface, increasing suction on carpets for a deeper clean. In our testing, it was able to tackle a variety of messes effectively, leaving floors noticeably cleaner.
However, the mopping functionality, while convenient, didn’t impress as much. The Dreame D9 Max comes with a 270ml water tank and a velcroed mop pad that can be attached for mopping. The robot intelligently switches to mopping mode when the tank is attached, and the app allows users to adjust the mopping intensity. The results were good for light cleaning, but for stubborn stains, such as dried food or tea spills, the Dreame D9 Max fell short. It simply wasn’t powerful enough to remove tougher stains in a single pass.
Additionally, the water usage was relatively conservative, meaning the mop pad didn’t get as wet as I would have preferred for a deeper clean. A little pre-soaking or manual scrubbing was required for tougher marks, which reduces the convenience factor for those looking for a completely hands-off experience.
Battery Life and Charging: Efficient and Reliable
The Dreame D9 Max comes with a large 5200mAh battery, which delivers impressive battery life. In normal suction mode, it covered my 1685 sq. ft. home in about 20 minutes and still had 73% battery left. When used in sweeping and mopping mode, the robot returned to the charging dock with 65% battery remaining. Even in turbo mode, which uses more power to deliver higher suction, the device didn’t fully drain the battery, and the smart recharge-and-resume feature worked flawlessly. When the battery gets low, the Dreame D9 Max automatically docks itself, recharges, and resumes cleaning where it left off.

Maintenance: Easy but Requires Regular Attention
Maintenance of the Dreame D9 Max is relatively hassle-free. The dustbin can be emptied easily, and it only needs cleaning every 3-4 days depending on the usage. The mopping pad should be cleaned after each session to ensure maximum efficiency. A small drawback is the main sweeping brush, which collects hair and debris, requiring regular cleaning. Thankfully, this task is simple and doesn’t take much time.
The robot also has a lifespan tracker in the Dreamehome app, helping you monitor the wear-and-tear of key components like the HEPA filter and brushes. These parts typically need replacement after 150 to 300 hours of use.
Overall, the Dreame D9 Max is a solid robot vacuum cleaner for homes that need daily sweeping and light mopping. It excels in suction power and can handle a variety of floors, including carpets, with ease. The mopping functionality, however, could use improvement, especially for tougher stains. If you're primarily looking for a robot vacuum to handle dusting, debris, and basic mopping, the Dreame D9 Max is an excellent option. But if you need something for more intensive cleaning, particularly in the mopping department, you may need to look at models with more powerful scrubbing capabilities.
For busy singles or those living alone who need a hassle-free way to maintain a clean home, the Dreame D9 Max offers great value. With scheduled cleaning sessions and a reliable app to customise cleaning preferences, this robot vacuum can help you keep your home neat with minimal effort. However, for those seeking a completely hands-off, deep-cleaning experience, some manual intervention may still be needed for tougher stains.
