According to the Panchag this year, the new moon of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month will fall on Monday, October 24. Therefore, the festival of Diwali will be celebrated on this day.

Significance Of Diwali

We worship Goddess Lakshmi on the day of Diwali and take her blessings as well as express our gratitude. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, is very transient and lives where hard work, honesty and gratitude are there.

It is believed that this festival is celebrated on the occasion of Lord Ram’s return after victory over Ravana. Therefore, people decorate their houses with lamps and lights on this day.

Diwali Lasts For 5 Days

The festival of Diwali is celebrated not just for one day but for five days. The festival starts on the day of Dhanteras and continues till Bhai Dooj. On the first day, lord Dhanvantari is worshipped and it is customary to buy utensils or ornaments. The second day is Narak Chaturdashi Tithi in which Yama dev is worshipped and lamps are donated.

The third day is the main day of Diwali when the house is decorated with lights and Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped. The fourth day is Govardhan Puja that is celebrated the next day of Diwali in which Govardhan mountain is made from cow dung and worshipped. The Diwali festival ends with the festival of Bhai Dooj on the next day of Govardhan i.e. Dwitiya.
