It is considered extremely auspicious and beneficial to buy things like brooms or utensils on the day of Dhanteras.

Things To Not Buy On Dhanteras

• Buying black-coloured clothes or wearing them on this day is believed to be inauspicious according to the scriptures. If you want to maintain prosperity and stable financial situation in your house, then you must steer clear of black clothes, whether it is for buying or wearing on Dhanteras.
• Often people buy things they need at home on the day of Dhanteras to fulfill the tradition as this will be economical and religious but mythology may not agree with this ideology.

• You should not buy glass items as they are considered symbols of Rahu and can bring bad luck to a person. Instead, you should buy something made of gold or silver which are considered to be the auspicious metals for the occasion.
• You should not purchase any sharp objects as it is believed that bringing them into the house creates Vaastu defects, which is not good for your family. 

• You are also advised not to bring plastic items, broken utensils, slippers and fallen items into the house on the day of Dhanteras. These items are believed to bring bad luck and disrupt the flow of money in the house and hence, they must be avoided.
