Chup: Dulquer Salmaan Starrer Did Better Than Jersey, Runway 34 On First Day

Amidst a wave of positive reviews online following its early preview, Chup: Revenge of the Artist, the Hindi film starring Dulquer Salmaan, Shreya Dhnawanthary, Sunny Deol, and Pooja Bhatt, had a decent opening on its first day. The film released in theatres on National Cinema Day on September 23, 2022 when all tickets were sold at just Rs 75.

As per the box office reports, it saw good number of footfalls and collected Rs 2.75-3.5 crore nett range “which may have been its first weekend if it was not for cinema day.” It did fairly better than expected considering the lowered ticket prices as the expectation was the film of this kind would collect Rs 1.50-2 crores on its first day.

Chup: Revenge of the Artist was the second most preferred film by the audience after Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt Brahmastra: Part One- Shiva. As per an Indian Express report, the film sold nearly 4 lakh tickets which is more than the number of tickets sold for Ajay Devgn starrer Runway 34, Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey, and Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar.

Now, it depends on word of mouth on how the film will do over the weekends as a majority of the population or targetted audience had already watched it during the early review on Thursday night.

Directed by R. Balki, Chup: Revenge of the Artist is an ode to actor and filmmaker Guru Dutt. The film revolves around a psychopath killer who is targeting film critics in the city of Mumbai. Film critics are being murdered week after week with the release of a new film in a bizarre series of events and the Mumbai Crime Branch is tasked to solve the case with the help of a criminal psychologist.

The film had already outperformed several big titles and Bollywood A-listers’ films such as Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Laal Singh Chaddha, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani starrer JugJugg Jeeyo, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera and the Hindi version of RRR in advance bookings. Salmaan has been praised as the most “intriguing” element of the movie and the film is sailing through robustly because of its unique storyline, as per the reviews.
