Before the announcement, March 31 was supposed to be a public holiday in most states for Id-Ul-Fitr. But to keep finances in order, banks have been told to stay open that day. This way, all transactions for the current fiscal year will be wrapped up on time.

On March 31, banks will still offer essential services, like accepting tax payments, processing pension and salary payments for government employees, and handling transactions for government schemes and benefits.

March 31, 2025 Is Financial Year-End Closing

March 31 is the last day of the government's financial year, which runs from April 1 to March 31 every year. To close out the financial year, all government-related financial transactions, payments, and settlements must be finalised before the new fiscal year starts on April 1.

These transactions are recorded and used for government records, tax purposes, and accounting later in the year.

Are Banks Open Or Closed On April 1, 2025?

The RBI's holiday calendar says banks will be closed on April 1 for annual accounting, except in a few states like Meghalaya and West Bengal. Even on bank holidays, you can still use ATMs, online banking, and mobile banking for transactions. Important services like tax payments and fund transfers will also be available.

It's best to check with your bank for specific instructions. Banks in different states will have varying holiday dates in April 2025, including Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, and Akshaya Tritiya.
