AI's growth graph is on a rise and most of us still can't figure out if it is a boon or bane for us. AI has turned out to be a helping hand in multiple industries, however, some of its functions appear bizarre and unrealistic.
Recently, a Delhi-based artist took to his social media and shared a series of images created by Artificial Intelligence depicting what couples from different states look like. The images now going viral on social media have sparked a debate around AI art.
AI-Generated Images Of Couples From Different States
Ever since the pictures were released online, netizens have been slamming them for being far from reality. The post included AI-generated images of couples from states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Bihar. The pictures left many internet users wondering what keywords went behind the art since they screamed 'stereotypes'.
Stereotyped Wedding Looks Of Indian Couples
A user under the image showing a Bengali couple wrote, “Yes, that's how you sum up a Bengali wedding, with a humongous fish 😒. You clearly haven't attended a Bengali wedding, have you? That is not even a fish, it's a shark.” “Bengali here and we do not dress like this. The jewellery is also not Bengali. The saree draping style also not Bengali. Just showing fish doesn’t mean it’s Bengali,” wrote another one. Many even called out the artist for their poor opinion of Punjabi couples since Punjabi Hindus didn't even feature in any of the pictures.
Well, this is not the first time AI was subjected to online trolling. Previously as well, AI art drew flak for outright stereotyping. (women bikers breaking stereotypes)
AI-Generated Images Of Women From Different States
A slew of pictures representing the culture of each state in India, right from Delhi to Tamil Nadu was earlier shared online by an AI artist. These images of women were generated using artificial intelligence and they portrayed women with stereotypical features, leaving ocial media users disappointed.
One of the images representing Goan women was called out massively because it depicted them as drunks. Many netizens questioned if the images met the artist's own criteria since they were downright offensive. A Twitterati’s comment on the post read, “You're merely sketching Indian tourists in Goa coz these are nothing like locals. I'd be happy if you come to Goa and see how locals live but then that will be too boring for you to work around for the attention you seek.”

One wrote, “What was the stereotypical description for Goa??? Drunk/high tourists??? Pathetic!!!” “AI tool (curious, which one) does not have human sense, but as a human & artist, you should have had it. Both the man & woman representation of Goans is utterly disrespectful and reflects very bad on you as a person and artist! Hope you realise ur mistake & delete this!,” wrote another furious Twitter user.

AI-Generated Images Of Men From Different States
Delhi-based artist, Madhav Kohli created a series of AI images of Indian men in stereotypical avatars. Netizens slammed the post for displaying too much bias. Many also questioned if the programmers even have enough knowledge of certain states.
Looks like AI's artwork majorly stems from the prevailing stereotypes. What do you think? Will the artist soon realise the potential dangers it all brings along? Time will tell!
