50000 for women with third girl child

Kalisetty Appalanaidu, a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Member of Parliament (MP) from Vizianagaram, made a statement that has stirred up quite a conversation in Andhra Pradesh. Appalanaidu announced a unique incentive for families with a third child during a public event. If the third child is a girl, the mother will receive Rs 50000 from his salary. However, if the child is a boy, the family would be gifted a cow and a calf.

This announcement quickly went viral on social media, drawing a mixed reactions. While some praised the initiative as a way to support larger families, others questioned its practicality and the underlying message about gender and population growth.

Appalanaidu’s proposal comes at a time when Andhra Pradesh is grappling with concerns over a declining young population. Senior TDP leaders, including Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, have been emphasising the need to encourage families to have more children. This announcement appears to be part of a broader effort to address the state’s demographic challenges.

Chief Minister’s Push for Maternity Benefits

Echoing the sentiment of boosting population growth, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently announced a significant change in maternity leave policies. Speaking at a public event in Markapur, Prakasam district, Naidu declared that all women employees in the state would now be eligible for maternity leave, regardless of the number of children they have. Previously, this benefit was limited to the first two deliveries.

Naidu’s statement, “All women should have as many children as possible,” reflects the government’s push to incentivise larger families. This policy shift is seen as a step toward reversing the declining birth rate in the state.

Appalanaidu’s announcement, made at the Rajiv Sports Compound in Vizianagaram, quickly spread across social media platforms. He said, "If a woman gives birth to a third child who is a girl, Rs 50000 will be paid to her from my salary. If the child is a boy, a cow will be handed over to her."

Supporters in Ranasthalam mandal were among the first to share the news, sparking a wave of discussions. While some applauded the MP’s effort to support families, others criticised the proposal, calling it outdated and questioning its alignment with modern family planning practices.
