The award ceremony for the 13th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, one of the biggest international Indian film festivals outside of the country, will take place at the iconic Palais Theatre in Melbourne on August 14.
Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiwadi, Aparna Sen directed The Rapist, Rajkumar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Badhaai Do, Surya and Lijomol Jose starrer Jai Bhim, and Konkona Sen Sharma starrer Mumbai Diaries have bagged top nominations this year.
The festival, which is presented by the Victorian Government, is an annual festival that takes place in Melbourne, Australia, and showcases the best films from India and the subcontinent. In 2022, the film festival is making its comeback for its physical version after it had gone virtual for the last two years due to the Covid pandemic. The festival will begin on August 12 and will continue till August 20. Over 100 films across 23 languages will be screened at the festival this year.
As per the festival, the awards will recognise the best in cinematic talent from across the Indian subcontinent across the formats of feature films and will also honour several acclaimed OTT shows. This year's nominations will see films and content which were released between August 2021 to April 2022.
This year's nominees include the leads and filmmakers of films Jai Bhim, The Rapist, Gangubai Kathiwadi, 83, Badhaai Do, and Sardar Udham, amongst others. Indie film nominations include the Kannada film Pedro, Bengali film Once Upon a Time in Calcutta, and Hindi film Fairy Folk amongst others, while Urf, Ayena, Ladies Only are some of the Best Documentary nominees. From OTT content, nominations include Mumbai Diaries, Aranyak, Mai and Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, among others.

The male actors nominated for Best Actor are Gopal Hegde (Pedro), Rajkummar Rao (Badhaai Do), Ramnish Chaudhary (Jaggi), Ranveer Singh (83), Suriya (Jai Bhim), Tovino Thomas (Minnal Murali), Vicky Kaushal (Sardar Udham), and Abhishek Bachchan (Dasvi). While the nominations for female actors include Alia Bhatt (Gangubai Kathiawadi), Bhumi Pednekar (Badhaai Do), Deepika Padukone (Gehraiyaan), Konkona Sen Sharma (The Rapist), Lijomol Jose (Jai Bhim), Shefali Shah and Vidya Balan (Jalsa), and Sreelekha Mitra (Once Upon A Time In Calcutta).
The festival jury includes award-winning film editor Jill Bilcock, one of Australia’s renowned actors Vince Colosimo, and multi-award-winning filmmakers Geoffrey Wright and Nadia Tass.
