If you are always on the go, a sports bra is one wardrobe essential you should invest in. Other than giving you full coverage throughout the day during your regular days, it comes handy during your most active movements if you are into fitness.

The only tricky part when it comes to sports bras is that it is difficult to pick the right one for your body. From racerback to compression sports bras, you get plenty of options to take a pick. So, how to choose the best sports bras for yourself?

We spoke to Priyanka Lingamaneni, Product Expert, Cult.sportand asked her to share quick tips to select the right sports bra.

She shared that two factors determine the comfort of a sports bra – compression and support. To ensure that your sports bra meets these two needs, the expert shared that one must check the following:

Sports Bra Band

Make sure that the sports bra you are trying has a band that isn't too thick or thin. If the band size is too big then it might ride up in the middle of your workout as you raise your hand up in the air.

Sports Bra Straps

The straps of your sports bra shouldn't be very stretchy. This will guarantee that your sports bra gives you the best movement control possible. Your bust will move less with a strap that is more rigid.

Sports Bra Cup

Always go for a sports bra offering full coverage. It should hold your breasts properly while also giving some space for ventilation.

Further, the expert shared that one can choose a sports bra depending on the impact level or activity they indulge in.

For Low Impact Activities

For low impact exercises like yoga, pilates and walking, regular sports bra with removable cups and less coverage. These can be a training sports bra or camisole style sports bra.

For Medium Impact Activities

Such sports bras can be worn during activities that involve moderate breast bounce. These exercises don't require as much effort as activities like cycling, Zumba, fast walking, trekking, etc. While medium impact bras may or may not have cups, they offer superior grip and support versus low impact bras. All medium impact bras have a tendency to "compress," holding your bust firmly in place. Such bras are usually available in a slip-on pattern with removable cups or hook and eye opening with encapsulated cups.

For activities like cross-fit exercises, running, dancing, kickboxing and all other sports that require a lot of jumping, look for sports bras with compressors, encapsulated cups. These bras offer the maximum amount of support and minimise bust mobility. If you are a fitness enthusiast, look for high impact bras. It is a good idea to look for sports bras with an opening on the front or back as they are easier to remove after a heavy workout.

Lastly, once you get your hands on the right sports bras, wash them correctly to make them last for longer. If they come with removable pads, remove them after use and wash them by hand. Sports bras, unlike regular bras, dry quickly. They can be washed and dried in a machine. However, it is a good idea to wash them by hand if you wish to extend its life.
