If you ask me one thing that I crave almost every other day is a crispy, hot dosa. Well, we can't head to a dosa corner every week but make it at home. Love dosas just like me? This recipe is for you.

You just need a few ingredients at home to make the dosa batter and it can be prepared on a regular tawa or non-stick pan if you don't have a dosa tawa at home. This homemade plain dosa can be enjoyed with toor daal, homemade sambar, or just as is as a snack for breakfast.

How To Make Plain Dosa?

  • Wash rice and soak in water for 3 hours.
  • In another bowl, add dal and soak for 3 hours.
  • In a grinder, add dal and some water as required to get a smooth batter.
  • Take it out in a big bowl.
  • Next, add soaked rice to the grinder and blend to make a smooth batter. Add water as required.
  • Add the rice batter to the dal batter and mix well.
  • Sprinkle salt as per taste and mix well.
  • Cover the bowl lightly covered and keep it in a warm place for 6-8 hours. This will help the batter ferment.
  • On a hot tawa, add some oil and spread it all over using a spatula.
  • Add some water to the dosa batter to give it a pouring consistency.
  • Using a ladle, spread the batter in a circular motion.
  • Make sure the spread is not very thick or you will not get that crispiness.
  • Add some oil to the ends of the dosa.
  • Gently lift the dosa and flip the side. Cook on the other side and remove from the pan. Dosa is ready to serve!
