Ingredients

  • 250 gms chicken
  • 2 small-medium sized potatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 150 gms basmati rice
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 150 ml milk
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Little lemon juice for marinade
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 10 black peppercorns
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 1 star anise
  • 4 cloves

Step

  • Step 1 :

    Gather all the spices, marinate the chicken in salt and lemon juice and salt.

  • Step 2 :

    Chop the garlic and onion and thin slices of ginger.

  • Step 3 :

    Cut the potatoes into halves with their skin peeled off.

  • Step 4 :

    Take a thick bottomed non-stick pan and pour a litre of water with all the spices (cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise, black peppercorn), in it.

  • Step 5 :

    Boil the water until it becomes half.

  • Step 6 :

    Fold in the chopped garlic, onion, chicken and ginger and lower the flame.

  • Step 7 :

    Cook for 5 minutes and then add salt as per taste along with the potatoes. Cook for 7 minutes keeping the flame on low.

  • Step 8 :

    Now add the well washed, soaked rice and mix well.

  • Step 9 :

    Add the milk and then cover the pan and cook for 15 minutes or until you feel that the rice is over cooked.

  • Step 10 :

    You can add more milk but not water if you feel the rice is not messy enough.

  • Step 11 :

    Once everything is cooked, add the butter and mix well.

  • Step 12 :
