Navratri is a vibrant 9-day Hindu festival honoring Goddess Durga. It's a time of colourful celebrations, music, dance, and amazing food. During these nine days, people decorate the area around the Goddess' statue, offer her special sweets and dishes (called prasad or bhog), and welcome her with traditional Garba dances and delicious feasts. To help you celebrate Navratri 2025, we've put together some tasty bhog recipes you can offer to Goddess Durga.
Navratri Bhog Recipes
Here are the bhog recipes you can prepare on the ocassion of Navratri:
Sabudana Kheer
This Navratri makes traditional sabudana kheer, a delicious dessert made with tapioca pearls. To start, soak half a cup of tapioca pearls in water for a few hours until they get bigger. Then, boil four cups of milk in a pan, add the soaked tapioca pearls, and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the pearls turn clear. Add half a cup of sugar to sweeten and a pinch of cardamom powder for extra flavor. You can also sprinkle some chopped nuts on top for extra crunch. This creamy pudding is a perfect treat to offer during Navratri celebrations.
Cashew Barfi
Another delicious treat you can offer to the Goddess during Navratri is cashew barfi. To make it, start by grinding cashews into a fine powder using a mixer. Next, heat a pan over the stove, add sugar and water, and cook until you get a thick, one-string syrup. Then, add the cashew powder to the syrup and stir constantly. Pour the mixture onto a greased plate and let it cool. Once set, cut it into barfi shapes and you're done!
Coconut Barfi or Laddu
Start by grating a coconut. Then, heat a pan with some ghee until it's melted. Add the grated coconut and sauté until it's lightly browned. Next, add sugar and stir well. The mixture will start to stick together quickly. Add a pinch of cardamom powder and mix everything together. Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool slightly. To make laddus, wet your hands with water and shape the mixture into small balls. Alternatively, to make barfi, pour the mixture into a plate and refrigerate until set, then cut into desired shapes.
