Gujiya is a quintessential delicacy made during Holi. The crescent-shaped sweet, fried dumpling signifies the spirit of homecoming and seasonal celebration in India. As the crunchy sweet is made and offered widely among Indian households, its ingredients and name differ by region. While the khoya-stuffed Mawa Gujiya is popular in North India, the coastal regions prefer to make coconut-rich Karanji, whereas Bihar and Jharkhand celebrate syrup-soaked Purukiya.

While Gujiya is deeply loved, achieving the 'halwai-style' perfection at home can be tricky. The home chefs either explode their gujiya shells or the crusts become soggy. In this article, we have covered the five best gujiya recipes that you must try at home this Holi.

5 Best Gujiya Recipes to Make At Home

The ultimate secret to achieving the perfect Gujiya shell lies in the perfect moyan (fat-to-flour ratio).

Perfect Gujiya Dough Ratio (For Crunchy, Flaky Shell)

  • Flour (Maida): 2 cups
  • Ghee (Moyan): ¼ cup
  • Chilled Water: ⅓ to ½ cup
  • Salt: A pinch
