Ahead Of Pathaan: A Look At 5 Patriotic Films Of Shah Rukh Khan

The trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film Pathaan was unveiled on January 10, 2023 which made the fans go gaga over it. The trailer video was dropped in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages as the film is set to be released in all three languages in theatres on January 25.

One of the most awaited films of 2023 stars Khan as a patriot. Actor Dimple Kapadia opens the trailer by discussing a private terrorist organisation, headed by John Abraham, whose sole goal is to destroy India. She divulges that the organisation is preparing a significant strike on India. Abraham sends a final warning. With a little assistance from Deepika Padukone, who is revealed to be a fellow "soldier", Pathaan (Khan) is ready to complete the task. They embarked on a journey together, and it was not an easy one.

Ahead of Pathaan, here is a look at five times Khan played characters, not necessarily soldiers, but patriotic in their own unique way.

Main Hoon Na

In the 2004 Hindi masala film Main Hoon Na, Khan plays the role of Major Ram Sharma, a soldier assigned on an undercover assignment where he had to disguise himself as a college student and protect a General's daughter from a hostile rogue soldier.

Chak De India

Inspired by the India women's national field hockey team's win at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the 2007 sports drama film Chak De! India stars Khan as Kabir Khan, former captain of the India men's national field hockey team. In the film, he becomes the coach for the Indian national women's hockey team, seven years after his former team’s disastrous loss to Pakistan, with the goal of making the 16-team women’s team a world champion.

Swades

Directed and produced by Ashutosh Gowariker, the 2004 Hindi drama film Swades stars Khan as a common man. Not every patriotic character needs to be a soldier or a sportsman to show patriotism for his country. In the film, Khan plays the role of a NASA scientist who comes back to India just to take his nanny with him to America and the process he ends up finding his roots.

Jawaan

Jawaan marks the first venture of Tamil filmmaker Atlee and Shah Rukh Khan.It will also be Khan’s first movie with South Indian actor Nayanthara who will be making her debut Bollywood films with this. The film is eyeing a June 2, 2023 release. As per the film’s first official poster, Khan is presented in the film as “Jawaan”.

Dil Hain Hindustani

In the 2000 Hindi satirical film Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Khan plays a successful loudmouthed news reporter who attempts to stop the execution of a man who has been set up by politicians and falsely accused of terrorism.
