The Film Federation of India (FFI) confirmed that Kiran Rao's directorial movie Laapataa Ladies is India's official entry for the Oscars 2025. Kiran Rao’s directed rural drama, Laapataa Ladies has been picked as India’s official entry to the 97th Academy Awards which is set to take place next year on March 3, 2025. The rural drama stood out amongst the 29 other movies from India to enter the Oscars 2025 race. Other movies that were submitted were the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal, the Malayalam movie Aattam and Cannes winner All We Imagine As Light. The selection committee of 13 members, headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua have unanimously decided on Laapataa Ladies as the official entry from India for Oscar 2025.

The film Laapataa Ladies directed by Kiran Rao and co-produced by Aamir Khan is set in a rural background.
