Adipurush Movie Review: Is Prabhas And Kriti Starrer Another Failed Adaptation Of Ramayan Or A Masterpiece? Read Here

With approximately 4000 VFX shots, a notable star cast, big budget, and even the epic tale of Ramayan, nothing could save Om Raut's Adipurush. Read on for our first day review.

Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage, starrer Adipurush that has been hitting headlines ever since its announcement finally made it to theatres today. Om Raut directorial, Adipurush finally released today after many delays and changes.

Honestly, I went in for the first show with great anticipation, all thanks to the unprecedented craze around the magnum opus that has been here for months now but I stepped out of the hall with a heavy head.

What Went Wrong?

Poor VFX

When the first teaser of Adirpurush was out, it was brutally trolled for its substandard VFX. Though the VFX team reworked some parts of the movie after all the criticism that came its way, the VFX disappoints you to bits.

Disturbing Dialogues

No, I didn't expect the cast strictly stick to Sanskrit and Hindi shlokas but the dialogues really left me appalled. "Kapda tere baap ka, Tel tere baap ka, Aag bhi tere baap ki, Toh jalegi bhi tere baap ki," Lord Hanuman is seen delivering this dialogue during the Lanka Dahan scene when his tail is set on fire. After years of movies and TV shows inspired by Ramayan, little did I expect such cringe dialogues from an epic.

Narrating the tale of Lord Rama, showcasing an adaptation of the greatest Hindu epic, Ramayan, the least I was expecting was some respect towards the revered characters of the tale. Unfortunately, the film failed as well.

Stretchy Second Half

Some highlights in the first half made me sit and watch the movie but the second half was unnecessarily padded. Another reason why the movie gets a nay.

What Went Right? (If at all, anything!)

For me, Saif Ali Khan as Ravan was the highlight of the film. Playing Lankesh, Khan really brought the character to life with his power-packed performance. Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Devdatta Nage, and Sunny Singh delivered a splendid performance in their respective roles. Though the cast wasn't a let-down, it couldn't save Adipurush from being the disappointment it is.

Final Verdict

I wonder if we really needed another mythological film based on Ramayan. If the purpose was to give a fresh take on the Hindu epic, Adipurush failed to deliver. If you are someone who enjoys watching the mythological tale, go watch the OG one on YouTube instead. This one isn't worth your money and time!
