The main aim of HerZindagi is to provide a platform where women can discover how to be better. And that’s why we bring forth inspirational stories of women who are doing exceptional work as entrepreneurs, trailblazers, pioneers and caregivers. One of them is Nanni Singh, the founder and Chief Executive of ShowCase Events, that does corporate and music events across India. Before this, she was the Events Lead of the GIVE programme of Genesis Foundation that raises funds to provide support to critically ill underprivileged children. Nanni is inspired by the thought of leaving behind a legacy and that’s why she is always working towards making something happen.
Tell us a bit about your early years.
As a young girl in Ambala, I grew up listening to music at home as my mother was extremely fond of it. In my early years, I too developed a fondness for music, especially classical and fusion. At the age of 10, I was put under the tutelage of a guru, where I began my journey of learning Hindustani classical vocal. At 14, I started learning the sitar and soon enough, started playing in different competitions and shows. These formative years, filled with music, were a joy ride!
What was the turning point in your life?
I got married young at 21 and was soon blessed with a daughter. Life was good. My path, however, was destined to change. The birth of my second born got me involved with Thalassemics India, as he was born with Thalassemia Major. Since 1996, I have been a part of all activities for care and control of Thalassemia with the organisation. This entails connecting with the patients, their families and the fraternity around the world so that we can help the existing patients and find ways to prevent the condition in the future generations.
When things settled down a bit, I chose my next path which was to join Genesis Foundation in 2008 as the Head of Events. There, I organised fundraiser events regularly to support critically ill underprivileged children. I started with creating, curating, co-ordinating and executing music events, small and big, but purely with a mission to raise funds.
This included music festivals and musical evenings. I feel music creates positive and happy vibes and is a happy meeting ground for both the musicians and the audience. In pursuing that belief, musical events were created, both for the Foundation and Thalassemics India. In this journey, I came in contact with a lot of amazing musicians and felt that independent and traditional music needed a serious voice and representation.
That is how ShowCase Events came into existence in 2018, with a creative and an equally passionate team in tow. With a pan-India reach, we do Corporate events and Music events, large and small, with a lot of creativity, passion and a personal touch. Once, we organised a Diwali mela on the river bank in Corbett, which was a huge hit.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?
The fun part is meeting new people including artists, discovering new talents but getting sponsorship for new names is very challenging. I would love to promote independent artists.
What’s next for you and ShowCase Events?
Our first traditional production - Sounds From The Desert is all set to premier this month. This musical showcases the legendary families of Rajasthan who will, in a completely curated set, present the different flavours of Rajasthan-LIVE. Post this we will be working on collaborative sets with legendary musicians. A lot of good music and a new genre are waiting to be launched and ShowCase Events and I have taken it upon myself to do this.
