A person with great passion in heart and a desire to move forward can achieve success with determination. Age is just a number for those who put in the hard work and dedication. The 14-year-old Aarna Wadhawan is a great example and a big inspiration.
While most children are engrossed in entertainment, games and mobiles, this little girl opted to do great work for society, enhancing nature’s beauty and maintaining the oxygen level.
The girl is busy planting trees!
At the age of 14, Wadhawan has already planted over 7800 trees and her journey is still going on.
Under HerZindagi's 'Shakti Rupen Sansthita' campaign, we got to know Aarna and her story more closely. Let us also tell you who this girl is and why her story is a part of our campaign.
Who is Aarna Wadhawan?
Aarna Wadhawan is a resident of Delhi and studies at Gyan Bharati School in Delhi. She has been in the spotlight for a while now as one of the youngest environmentalists globally.
She is often referred to as the 'Nature's daughter'. Aarna Wadhawan has built a small Environmentalist Army and has successfully planted around 7800 trees so far with them. She is also a social activist, TEDx speaker and Earth Prize Scholar 2022 who inspires us all with her zeal and passion.
What Inspired Aarna To Become An Environmentalist?
The inspiration behind Aarna's story is the loss of her grandfather during the first wave of the Coronavirus in the year 2020. She shared that the inability to get oxygen at the right time became the reason for her grandfather's death.
The little girl had a breakdown, at the time she was just 11 years old. The incident made her understand the importance of trees and she started planting 10-15 trees every day along the Badarpur-Mehrauli road in New Delhi. After she had already planted about 100 trees, Aarna realised that it was not easy to plant all the trees alone and found the motivation to start the 'Youth Environmentalist Club'.
With time, she was joined by more people, especially the youngsters in the club and she started planting trees on a larger scale. She became an inspiration to thousands of others to plant more and more trees. Aarna is continuously working to make nature beautiful.
Aarna shared her views and said that if today's young generation unites, we will be able to save the environment, the only thing that remains is to create awareness amongst the youth, for which she is continuously engaged in efforts.
Aarna inspires all of us and says, "Protecting nature is our duty, we all should try to save our earth by sowing just one seed."
Aarna's Life Achievements
Aarna now continuously organises tree plantation drives and awareness programs with various schools, colleges and NGOs. Her efforts have been appreciated by WWF India, U-Report India, TERI, PETA India and other big names. She was also appreciated by the Environment Minister of India, Shri Bhupender Yadav for her work.
Aarna also produced a portable solar-powered UV lamp, a device that facilitates sterilizing operation theatres in rural areas with irregular power supply. For this, she also stood first in the national-level Future Tech Olympiad, which was organized by CBSE and IBM.
Aarna, The Earth Prize Scholar 2022
Aarna was presented with the title of Earth Prize Scholar 2022. Her invention of the solar-powered portable UV lamps bagged her the award, popularity and recognition. After a lot of social work and tree plantation drives in different states, the World Environment Council made her their brand ambassador.
She was also appreciated by Bindu Dalmia, writer and columnist and BJP's Dr Beena Lawania, who praised her on her official media platform.
Inspiration To The Less Fortunate
With all her progress, Aarna is now directing her efforts towards the underprivileged people, she educates poor girls as her contribution towards bringing a change in the world.

Aarna and her entire team go to the slum areas every Tuesday and Friday after school to teach the girls and also inspire them to plant as many trees as possible to keep the environment safe. Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu has also praised Aarna for her work.
Aarna suggested that keeping the environment and the motive of pollution reduction in mind, we should all make bags from the leftover clothes at home and use them for daily use, this will reduce the use of plastic a lot and nature will remain safe.
