Surfing

Not a very common athletic profession in India, surfing came to the limelight, when Ishita Malaviya became India's first-ever woman surfer in an otherwise male-dominated adventure sport. She not only created waves and news with her exceptional surfing skills but by choosing an unconventional career, broke many stereotypes and inspired a lot of other women.

Boys are urged to pick up physically taxing sports and games, while girls are taught to play housewives or with dolls. One of the foremost boxers in India, Mary Kom must have decided to break those barriers early on. Boxing is one such field which was male-dominated until women like Mary Kom chose it as their career. The 6-time world boxing Championship and I'd the only woman boxer in India to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.
