Delhi-based Indian fashion designer Nancy Tyagi has captured everyone's hearts with her exceptional design talent. Her debut at Cannes is being celebrated nationwide, and she deserves all the recognition she's receiving. Her journey from a small-town girl to the Cannes red carpet is truly inspirational. Here's a tribute to Nancy Tyagi as we look back at five times she amazed everyone with her "outfits from scratch."
Nancy Tyagi’s 20 KG Self Stiched Gown
Nancy Tyagi's rise to fame on social media was not solely due to her debut at Cannes 2024 and the viral interview clip in which she spoke passionately in her mother tongue about her 20 KG self-stitched ensemble. Her recognition was the result of months of hard work. She gained popularity through her 100-day-long "Outfit From Scratch" series, where she showcased her talent for creating stunning outfits inspired by celebrity red-carpet looks.
Her Cannes 2024 outfits, including her 1000-metre pink ruffle gown that weighed over 20 kg, were no exception. Nancy Tyagi revealed on Instagram that she dedicated 30 days to creating this remarkable ensemble, pouring her heart and soul into the process.
Nancy Tyagi’s Cannes 2024 Lavender Saree
After awing the entire globe with her 20 kg self-stitched gown, Tyagi served her second look, which set the standard higher. This outfit showcased her boundless talent as a designer, featuring an intricate hand-embroidered lavender saree with a full-sleeve backless blouse and a matching veil, giving a contemporary twist to the timeless saree look.
Tyagi posted a reel that documented her process of creating the self-embroidered lavender saree. She sourced materials from local Indian markets to craft each piece of fabric into her vision, which is a showcase of every bit of her hard work.

Nancy Tyagi's All Black Cannes 2024 Ensemble
Tyagi didn’t stop at two; she scored a hat trick with her third all-black ensemble at Cannes. The outfit featured intricate black stone embellishments adorned throughout, consisting of a corset, skirt, and gloves. She accessorised her look with a ruffle stole, beaded hairpiece, and matching bag, all designed and made by Miss Tyagi herself.
As she revealed her third look on Instagram, she posted a video captioned, “Cannes Film Festival ka mera teesra outfit! 🖤✨ Yeh mere dil ke bohot kareeb hai – ek corset, tail wali skirt aur stole ka perfect blend. Black ka elegance aur sleek look kuch aur hi hai. Yeh pura design maine khud banaya hai!”

For the 77th day of her "outfit from scratch" series, Tyagi recreated Alia Bhatt’s grey and lavender gown, which she wore for the Red Sea Film Festival. In the video she posted, she showed herself sourcing similar grey satin fabric and then stitching it into a gown similar to Alia’s.

What was truly impressive was how she self-stitched the sleeves, added glitter to the flower embellishments on the outfit, and did all of this with limited resources, including a manual sewing machine. The passion and attention to detail that Tyagi has put into this recreation had made this outfit my personal favourite.
Nancy Tyagi’s Orange Mermaid Style Corset Dress
Saving the best for last, this self-made orange gown by Nancy Tyagi deserves a special shoutout. Not only was this her creation, but the young designer made her vision come to life by sourcing a tangerine glitter fabric, which she later stitched into a bodycon mermaid-style dress.
Tyagi paired the floor-length dress with her statement glitter gloves. The most impressive part was the dress’s bodice and its impeccable fit and design, which rivalled those of the best designers. It doesn’t stop there; the thoughtful addition of ruffles across the border of the dress was nothing short of a dazzling addition to the ensemble.
If you’re a little girl with big dreams in your heart and you’re reading this because you truly admire Nancy Tyagi, then let her be an example to you. Let her hard work and rise to fame be an inspiration and a testament, proving that regardless of your circumstances, if you put your mind to something, nothing can stop you.
