As we get ready for the Met Gala 2024, let us take you through the themes of the red carpet for the previous five years.
The theme for the Met Gala 2018 red carpet was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.’ The theme for that year was inspired by Catholicism exploring religious iconography and the influence of medieval art in fashion.
The theme for the Met Gala 2019 red carpet was ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion.’ The 2019 was inspired by Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay, “Notes on ‘Camp’” which features camp as ‘love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.’
The theme for the Met Gala 2021 red carpet was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.’ The theme was based on the ever-changing U.S. through time and the emotions behind the country's evolving culture.
