Indian origin designer Bibhu Mohapatra who hails from Odisha and is a name to reckon with in the New York fashion circuit made his big comeback in the national capital as he closed the Lakme Fashion Week 2023 with a grand finale. His larger than life showcase was a capsule edition of his greatest sartorial pieces that were inspired by the poignant women in his life and was a celebration of their individuality.

The ‘Come Home’ showcase which was a collaboration between Bibhu Mohaptra and the ‘House of Lakme’, had not one or two but a bunch of actors and models who have all been faces of ‘Lakme’ such as the current face of Lakmé Ananya Panday, Bipasha Basu, Lisa Haydon, Carol Maria Gracias, Simone Singh, Vipasha Agarwal, Alicia Kaur, Kirandeep Chahal and Shimona Nath.
Bibhu’s Mohapatra dream of being the greatest designers of his generation finds expression in celebrities and names to reckon with such as Priyanka Chopra and Michelle Obama incorporating his designs in their wardrobes.
Mohapatra himself defined his inspiration behind the collection which was collaborated with the ‘House of Lakmé’ during a post event press conference saying, “I believe that Lakmé and I both share a common goal of championing women and celebrating their elegance, strength, and confidence while empowering them to express their unique identities and talents.”

All in all, Bibhu Mohapatra’s collection was a lookbook hand curated to win all the party looks this festive and holiday season. Since it is Bibhu’s homecoming to the Indian soil, I can’t wait to see more of the designer in the Indian design scene, Bollywood and beyond into the wardrobes of all the tasteful Indian women.
