Fashion brands are what most of us wish to own a product of. We have heard bug names, and are well aware that they are on the other side of the affordability scale. However, we do tend to save up to own that one piece of a particular brand we love. But have you ever wondered what these brand owners really look like? Well, let's give a face to some of these names which are now a brand themselves.

Vera Wang

Before becoming a world-known fashion designer, Wang used to be an avid figure skater and even tried to make it to the US Olympic team. The now 70-year-old American designer is an alumnus of Sarah Lawrence College and was interestingly hired by Vogue to work as an editor, where she worked for 17 years. After that, she spent two years at Ralph Lauren, and, at the age of 40, she became a wedding dress designer. Her mother worked as a translator for the United Nations, while her father, owned a medicine company.

Giorgio Armani

Armani was an Italian designer in 2001 and he is also the pioneer of red-carpet fashion. It was Armani who first banned models with a BMI of less than 18 after the death of model Ana Carolina Reston who starved herself to death.

Gianni Versace

Versace's mom was a seamstress, so he spent his childhood learning how to sew. He opened the first Versace boutique in 1978, which became an international success. His inspiration for his designs was the contemporary and pop cultures where he linked fashion with the music world. His sister Donatella took over the business after Gianni passed away.

Miuccia Prada

The youngest granddaughter of fashion designer Mario Prada. Miuccia took over her family business in 1978. The 70-year-old is the head designer at Prada and Miu Miu and she was also voted amongst the best dressed women in the world by Forbes.

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs is graduated from both the High School of Art and Design in New York and the Parsons School of Design. He owns and heads the design department of the fashion label by his name. The 57-year-old's brand and was also announced to be Womenswear Designer of the Year by the American Council of Fashion Designers four years back.

Christian Louboutin was always in love with shoes and he has designed for brands like Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent before creating he established his own brand when he turned 27. He has also collaborated with ace Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for bags and shoes.

Tom Ford

Tom Ford has worn many hats. He is a fashion designer, film director, producer and screenwriter. After shifting to New York, the 58-year-old designer was in love with the glamor and scene of the Studio 54 nightclub which can be seen his creations. It was in 2006 when he launched a line of menswear for the first time.

The two designers started their own fashion label together in 1985. They had first met in 1980 in Milan where they worked together for the same fashion house.
