Steps To Convert Oversized Kurta Into A Shirt Dress

Follow these easy DIY steps to convert your old, boring oversized kurta into a classy shirt dress:

Step 1: Stitch The Open Ends Of The Kurta

Choose an oversized kurta of your choice. You can go for your favourite colour, pattern, or fabric. Firstly, you need to close the two open ends of your kurta to give you a dress-like structure. Use a sewing machine to stitch both sides. If you have a long kurta, cut a strip from the bottom and keep it aside to make a collar later on.

Step 2: Cut the Kurta vertically from the Centre

Place the kurta on the floor and use scissors to cut the kurta vertically from the centre, starting from the neckline to the bottom. Here, you’ll be stitching some buttons to give it a shirt-like feel.

Step 3: Place Buttons In The Centre

Gather a bunch of similar-looking shirt buttons and use a needle & thread to sew them vertically in the centre. Now use a pair of scissors to carefully make small cuts adjacent to the buttons. Close all the buttons, and your shirt dress is almost complete.

Step 4: Make a Collar For The Shirt Dress

Use the leftover fabric to make a collar. Take inspiration from any of your shirts, take measurements and use chalk to make an outline of the collar. Cut it out using scissors and stitch it on the dress's neckline with the help of a sewing machine. You can use a hot iron to give the collar a folded look.
