While sarees are an elegant and timeless piece of garment that works for every occasion, they do get old after multiple wears. But that doesn't mean it's time to discard them. With some simple DIY steps, you can turn your old saree into a beautiful palazzo set that works well for all occasions—work, hangout, parties, festive gatherings, events, and more. Here is an easy guide to make a palazzo set from a saree.
Below are the basic materials needed to convert a saree into a palazzo set:
Here is a step-by-step guide to make a palazzo set from an old saree:
Choose a plain saree of any preferred colour and material. You can opt for cotton, rayon, or any other fabric. Fold the saree and cut it into two halves. This way, you can have two pieces of fabric to make a kurta and palazzo.
Take one piece of the saree and fold it into half. Place it on the floor and make sure there are no creases. Now, take a kurta for measurement and place it on the fabric. Use chalk to make the outline. Remove the kurta and make a layout of the neckline. You can choose from any neck design as per your preference, including V-neck, scoop neck, round neck, deep neck, and more.
Use a pair of scissors to cut the outline of the kurta made with chalk. Stitch the two pieces of fabric together with the help of a sewing machine to get a kurta made from a saree. Keep it aside.

Fold the newly made kurta and palazzo set inside out and try it on to check the fitting. This palazzo set is perfect for work and outings, but if you wish to give it a stylish touch, then gotta patti is what you need. Use this decorative material to enhance the neckline or borders of the palazzo set using adhesive, and suitable for weddings and functions.
Note: Using gotta patti to decorate the palazzo set is optional. If you want to reduce the extra work, you can choose a printed saree or one with beautiful embroidery.
