A poncho is basically an outer garment, worn over a plain top. This piece of clothing is made from extremely light fabrics for the summers and woollen threads in winters. While the crochet poncho looks classic, there are other elegant fabric ponchos that are garnering the attention of the fashionistas. The high-fashion ponchos are extremely simple to make and redesign. You need not spend any money to make your own beautiful poncho at home. Instead, you just need simple things that are already available at your home to prepare or enhance ponchos for most of your outfits. Here’s how!
Dupatta Poncho
Supplies
- Chiffon dupatta
- Sewing machine
- Newspaper
- Pair of scissors
Steps
- Take any plain or printed chiffon dupatta. Fold it into two halves.
- Take another deep neck top or kurta to mark the neckline. Once you draw the neckline using chalk, cut it and stitch folding the fabric inwards. You can also paste simple lace if you don’t want to stitch it.
- Now, you can roughly stitch the dupatta from the side to make a baggy poncho or simply put on a belt and step out. Either way, it will look chic.
Fringe Poncho
Supplies
- Over sized t-shirt
- Pair of scissors
Steps
- Turn the t-shirt inside out and open its stitches leaving the stitch on the shoulder.
- Using the pair of scissors cut and remove 3-5 inches of the fabric from the bottom.
- Then, make a reference line in the middle of the t-shirt. Start cutting the tee vertically from the bottom up to the reference line.
- Once done, pull all the straps one by one to stretch it.
Pom Pom Poncho
Supplies
- Colourful woollen thread
- 4-5 meter lace
- Fabric glue
- Old poncho
Steps
- Start by placing your plain poncho on a surface. Spread it well to remove any wrinkles from the cloth.
- You can either buy pom pom from the store or can make your own colourful pom poms using woollen threads.
- You want to make small balls. Start by rolling the woollen thread on one finger. Take out the rolled thread, tie from the centre and cut open the ending and spread it making a small ball.
- Repeat the process to make around 30-35 balls. Once done, take the lace and start pasting the balls on it using fabric blue.
- Then, paste the lace with pom pom at the bottom and on the sleeves of your poncho.
Kurta Poncho
Supplies
- Old Saree
- Pair of scissors
- Sewing machine
- Measuring tape
Steps
- The kurta should be at least until your knees. So using the tape, measure the length of your body without bending.
- Take your old saree, fold it into two halves from the pallu. You want to keep the pallu in the front. Now cut the fabric.
- Take another deep neck top or kurta to mark the neckline. Once you draw the neckline using chalk, cut it and stitch folding the fabric inwards with the help of a sewing machine.
- Fold the fabric into two halves vertically and draw upside-down L from the corner to make the hand and body of the kurta poncho. Stitch the fabric from the side.
