Since it was her first book, the team of HerZindagi got her talking on how she managed it and for some tips for a first time writer.
What Are The Key Things That You Have To Keep In Mind While Writing A Book?
Initially, when I got the opportunity to monograph the life story of Ahmed Habib Sahab, I was a bit concerned, as the subject was out of the box and I had no prior experience as such. Writing a biography of a hairstylist was a very different and difficult project as other than his life story, a book requires deep research and chronological description of hairstyling and its beauty. Basically, a lot of research work is needed.

Reader-friendly language, style and approach are some of the essential parts but the most important aspect of a book is its content, that keeps the reader engaged. If the content is not rich and well researched, it will diminish the impression on the reader. A book is not just evaluated through its cover and paper quality, it is valued for the thousand hours of work that was dedicated to creating the best possible reading experience by the author. My personal view is that 'one should write to inspire your own self first, then only your writing can inspire others'.
While writing a biography the biggest challenge is the lack of availability of content. So in that case you have to research a lot, have to refer to old articles in archives, and need to read more reference books to find out the barber’s community role in past century in comparison to modern society. What we see today in comparison to what this profession was some decades ago, has totally transformed.
I had to meet a lot of people starting from family members, his sons, wife, grand children’s, acquaintances and a lot more friends of his and industry experts to get a detailed insight about the life of Mr Habib.

Is Your Work A Different Ball Game For A Woman?
I think all professions have equal challenges. When you are on the ground you need to get a lot of things done irrespective of whatever you may be. One has to tackle all situations at all times. I think it’s not about being a man or women; it’s more about how you take the society into consideration. Life brings challenges and we have to face them with the same spirit, that’s how you see the real face of life. There are instances in life when you think this is your breakdown; but your conviction and commitment make you win the battle and you come out from whatever the situation may, as a real warrior.
