Mahalaxmi Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in Kolhapur city of Maharashtra, India. It is dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi, also known as Ambabai, and is considered one of the Shakti Peethas in the country. The temple attracts a large number of devotees each year and is believed to be one of the most powerful and sacred places of worship in India. Mahalaxmi Shakti Peeth is one of the many significant pilgrimage sites in India dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that devotees visiting this temple as a pilgrimage help achieve salvation.
Architecture Of Mahalakshmi Temple
The Mahalakshmi Temple was built in the Hemadpanthi architectural style. The temple was reportedly initially constructed about 700 AD and is an example of Chalukya Empire architecture. The sandstone statue of the four-armed, crowned goddess is set on a stone platform. The black stone carving of Mahalaxmi is 2 feet 8.5 inches tall. In the temple premises, the Shri Yantra is engraved on the corner opposite the Mahakali. There are also five huge towers in the temple complex, along with a large hall. There is also a big spire located above the sanctum where the goddess Mahalakshmi is housed.
History Of Mahalakshmi Temple
Although some of the temple's elements date from the second millennium CE, according to epigraphic evidence, the god resided there in the seventh century CE and the temple from the tenth century CE. In the interim period, this temple had fallen out of devotees, and the Goddess's image was kept somewhere else. Following the Marathas' rise to power in 1715, worship was brought back.
