Aurangzeb Demolish Kalkaji Mandir
Just like many Hindu temples and monuments, the sixth Mughal ruler Aurangzeb destroyed many parts of the Kalkaji Mandir. After his death, the temple was reconstructed in the 18th century.
Mundan Ceremony In Kalkaji Mandir
Mundan ceremony is a ritual that is performed on 6-8 month-old babies where their heads are shaved off. In Hinduism, it is believed that hair is the unwanted burden that we bring into this life from our previous one. It is believed that Goddess Kalki took birth at the place where the Kalkaji Mandir stands tall. When Kaushaki Devi battled demons who terrorised the temple area, Kalki Devi who was born from the former’s eyebrows, continued the battle and ended the creatures. After gaining victory, the Goddess (Goddess Lakshmi In Dream Meaning) declared the place as her home and ever since she has been worshipped there.
Only Temple That Stays Open During Solar Eclipse
When most temples remain closed during a solar eclipse, Kalkaji Mandir stays open. Devotees are allowed to visit the temple and worship the deities here.
