With winter right around the corner, we are excited to be hopping on the seasonal food train. One of the best things about the chilly weather is you get to snuggle in your comfortable blanket, sip on your favourite hot beverage and read a book or scroll through your phone.
From hot milk to tea, there is an array of things for you to try and have a cosy winter this year. Take a look.
Masala Chai (Spiced Tea)
Though many people prefer to drink masala chai throughout the year, it is only in winter that its flavourful taste seems extra special. The best way to enjoy it is to pour it into a kulhad (earthen glass) and drink it after your morning walk.
There can be many variants of it at home. Depending on what you like, you can add, substitute or replace a spice or herb.
Kanji
Have you ever had kanji which looks like aged fine wine? It is a special beverage often consumed at room temperature in winter. It is made using kala gajar (red carrots) which is a seasonal vegetable. It is cooked before it can be consumed. Many flavours are added to it that elevate its taste.
Almond Milk (Badam Milk)
Almond milk is a popular household drink in India, especially in winter. Almonds (almond oil for hair) are believed to provide warmth to our bodies. You can also add more flavours to it by infusing it with cinnamon (dal chini), saffron (kesar) and cardamom (elaichi) among others. Usually, badam milk is not very sweet. Therefore, it is one of the most favoured beverages in India.
Noon Chai
India is a land where you can find different recipes of tea in almost every state. Noon chai is from Kashmir and is a pink-coloured body-warming beverage. It is prepared with milk, nuts and sea salt. With a velvety texture, it will surely leave you wanting more.
