Durga Puja has started in full swing in the cultural capital Kolkata, West Bengal. Just like every other year, the residents of Kolkata have switched on creativity and come up with the most unique and eccentric themes for Durga Puja pandals around the city. One such is the pandal that challenges the taboos around menstruation.

Keeping one of the most important subjects of discussion in mind, Pathuriaghata Pancher Palli Sarbojanin Durgotsab came up with a pandal theme around menstruation and taboos related to it.

It is believed in most cultures that menstruating women are impure and hence should not visit a temple or even visit the kitchen. This pandal has been designed to break the social taboos around menstruation. It represents that every woman in Devi and every Devi bleeds. 2. Puchka Theme - Behala Notun Dal Club

Puchka is one of the most relished street foods in Kolkata. To honour its spicy and sweet flavours, Behala Notun Dal Club designed a Durga Puja pandal inspired by Puchka. The decorations have been done using Puchkas (gol gappa or pani puri) and Donas (plate made of leaf). The pandal is situated in Tala Park.

3. All Metal Decoration - Mudiali Club

The most common decor material used in Durga Puja pandals is cloth. However, the Mudiali Club has cut off the monotony by making a pandal with only metal. The theme has been named “Somaroho” (splendour). This royal-looking theme cannot be missed by you. It is saturated in Kalighat, South Kolkata.

Hazra Park Durgotsab has come up with the most artistic Durga Puja pandal theme. The pandal has been inspired by the auto-rickshaw. The name of the theme is “Teen Chakar Golpo” (the tale of three wheels). Situated in Bhawanipore, this unique theme makes it a must-visit.
