The Adiyogi Shiva statue is dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. It was designed by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a well-known Indian yogi, and founder of the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote human well-being. Although one would infer from the name that this location is exclusive to a certain faith or may have religious connotations, it is actually a secular location. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in the numerous events that take place here, regardless of their sect or religion. It took two and a half years to build the statue, with over 600 sculptors and artisans involved in the process. It was inaugurated by Narendra Modi in 2017 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
About Adiyogi Shiva Statue
The statue is dedicated to Adiyogi, who is considered the ‘first yogi’ and the originator of yoga. It is designed to inspire people to take up the practice of yoga and realise their highest potential. The seven snakes coiled around the neck of the statue represent the seven energy centres in the human body. The statue is made of steel and weighs around 500 tons. It sits on a platform made of 12,000 cubic meter of concrete and is surrounded by a water body. The monument is built to survive natural disasters and harsh weather. This imposing monument is surrounded by rich vegetation and the Velliangiri hills, which adds to the attraction of the location.
