At the launch of the first ever tourist village, Division Commissioner, Jammu, Raghav Langer said, "This tourism initiative will strengthen the rural economy and community entrepreneurship, empowering youth and women by providing direct and indirect employment opportunities."

This first ever tourist village falls under the Jammu and Kashmir Tourist Village Network which was launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under Mission Youth in September 2021.

The initiative aims to transform 75 villages of the Union Territory which are known for their scenic beauty, historical and cultural significance.

Where Is It?

Jammu and Kashmir's first tourist village is located in Panchari, Udhampur. It was launched by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Raghav Langer at the Sankari Devta ground in Meer Panchari.

Homestay facilities for tourists will be available in Panchari. This will not only help boost tourism but also help generate income for thhe local youth.

These homestays will provide the tourists a feeling of home away from home as they holiday amid the natural surroundings of Panchari. These homestays have been built as per the requirements of the visitors who often look for a place located in the midst of beautiful scenery.

A resident of the village said, “While holidaying, tourists often look for a place which is located amid natural surroundings but at the same time gives them a feeling of home away from home. The facilities of homestay in the village will fulfil this requirement of visitors besides adding to the income of villagers.”

The divisional commissioner shared that when the tourists visit these home stays, they will enjoy simple living and learn a lot about the Dogra culture and cuisine.

The tourist village will open in twin blocks of Panchari and Moungri. The village will strictly follow COVID protocols like wearing face masks, social distancing.

Panchari is located 35 km from Udhampur town in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir is well-connected with different parts of the country via rail, road and air.
