For decades, songwriting has been a profession that has mostly been taken up by men. However, the scenario has changed with emerging women songwriters in the industry. Here are some female songwriters whom you must know about.
Kausar Munir
Kausar Munir is known to be the topmost female lyricist in B-Town. She has written hundreds of Hindi songs that have been recognised and appreciated. She has written famous songs for Bollywood movies including ‘Falak Tak’ from ‘Tashan’, ‘Ishaqzaade’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Dhoom 3’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, and ‘Dear Zindagi’.
Priya Saraiya
Priya Saraiya is one of the famous names in the world of Indian music. She is a lyricist, singer, and stage performer for Gujarati music. She has written famous Bollywood songs including ‘Jeena Jeena’, ‘Jaise Mera Tu’, ‘Jee Karda, Chhalni Karde Seena Mera (Rock Version)’, and ‘Mileya Mileya’.
Jasleen Royal
Jasleen Royal is a famous Indian singer, songwriter, and composer who started from Indie and now has dominantly worked in Bollywood as well. She has composed heart-touching songs including ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kaha’, ‘Preet’, ‘Heeriye’, and ‘Sang Rahio’. She became the first female lyricist to win the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for ‘Shershaah’.

Anvita Dutt Guptan
Anvita Dutt Guptan is an all-rounder with her career stretching from songwriting to dialogue writing, screenplay writing, story writing, and directing. She has written popular songs including ‘London Thumakda’, ‘O Gujariya’, ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Chhaliya’, ‘Ishq Wala Love’, ‘Gulaabo’, and ‘Ahista Ahista’.
