Actress Biana Momin from 'Eko' has been getting the well-deserved recognition for her performance in this Malayalam movie. Momin played the role of ‘Mlathi Chettathi’, the elderly protagonist in Dinjith Ayyathan’s mystery thriller movie. Who Is Biana Momin From 'Eko'?

Biana Momin wasn’t always an actress; in fact, being an actress was never a part of her plan. She was a retired English literature teacher from Tura Government College who hails from the Garo Hills in Meghalaya. Momin is also a member of the Garo tribe, which is one of the indigenous communities of Meghalaya. The opportunity to star in this movie came to Momin as a surprise. You now get to see her play the lead role of an elderly Malay woman, Mlathi Chettathi, in the psychological thriller ‘Eko’.

How Did Biana Momin Start Her Acting Career At 70?

The casting team was looking all over to find their lead actress beared similar appearance to that of a Malay woman. Eko’s team reached out to their friends in the film industry and even the Indian army stationed across the eight north-eastern states. Momin had won over the directors with her performance in her audition, and her commitment to move from the role at this age really struck with the ‘Eko’ team.

Upon getting this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, her kids nudged her to take this leap. Momin decided to take the role and made her journey of more than 3,000 km south to Kerala to act in this film. She reached Kerala, where she was dealing with a language she did not understand while embracing her new role as well. 

About ‘Eko’

‘Eko’ is a Malayalam movie which follows a young caretaker, Peeyoos. According to the IMDb gist of the film, the plot revolves around, “In misty Kaattukunnu hills, an elderly woman and her caretaker confront past memories while a hunted dog breeder named Kuriyachan eludes capture. As searchers arrive, buried secrets emerge.”
