How To Protect Yourself Against Deepfakes?

To shield yourself from the dark side of the Internet, here are some guidelines shared by the National Cybersecurity Alliance:

  1. Be mindful of what personal information you share over social media. Avoid sharing high-quality pictures and videos of yourself that can be deepfaked.
  2. Enable privacy settings on your social media profiles by accessing the privacy settings. This will limit your data from spreading to unwanted sources.
  3. Watermarking your photos and videos can make your content hard to deepfake or morph.
  4. Most social media platforms provide multi-factor authentication which safeguards your data, conversations, and more by setting privacy codes, facial scans, fingerprint locks, and more for increased protection.
  5. Avoid clicking on suspicious links from unknown senders you may receive through emails, social media DMs, or SMSs.
