Confirming his divorce from Avantika Malik in February 2019, he acknowledged the truth behind his divorce in an interview with Vogue. Imran stated, "The speculation that I’m romantically involved with Lekha Washington is true. I’m divorced and have been separated since February 2019.”

In addition to confirming his divorce, Imran Khan also affirmed his romantic involvement with Lekha Washington. In the same interview with Vogue, he shed light on the progression of their relationship, he explained that their closeness developed during the lockdown. Imran clarified that this closeness occurred a year and a half after his separation from Avantika and nearly a year after Lekha's separation from her partner, correcting reports that inaccurately referred to him as her husband.

Imran Khan On Lekha Washington Being Called A ‘Homewrecker’

Furthermore, Imran Khan addressed the accusations and narratives portraying his partner as a 'homewrecker.' Expressing his frustration, the actor vehemently rejected such claims. He said that his romance with Lekha unfolded during the lockdown, nearly a year after his separation from his wife. Imran strongly criticised the misogynistic nature of labelling Lekha as a homewrecker, saying that such narratives undermine his personal agency.

Avantika and Imran exchanged vows in 2011 and share a daughter named Imara. Speculation about their separation surfaced in 2019, but neither Imran nor Avantika officially addressed the rumours. Reports emerged last year suggesting that the couple had decided to part ways. Avantika has occasionally alluded to her personal struggles on Instagram. In 2021, she posted about feeling 'stuck' and seeking solace in the 'darkest nights.' In 2020, Avantika reposted a message discussing marriage and divorce, referring to it as a 'truth bomb.'
