Diljit Dosanjh ‘Dil-Luminati’ Concert: Beant Singh Raised Claims Of Vandalisation

Asian youth gold medallist Beant Singh posted a reel on Instagram two days ago, showing the damage caused in the stadium by concertgoers. The video reveals the stadium littered with beer bottles, trash, and food waste, making it nearly impossible to train. Singh criticised the situation in the video and expressed that this is one of the reasons why India struggles to advance in sports.

In an interview with ThePrint, Beant Singh stated, “Sports equipment personally belonging to athletes was also vandalized and damaged.” He added, “We have no problem with Diljit or the stadium organizing a concert. However, we do have a problem with how our space is treated. The stadium was vandalized, and equipment kept in rooms was broken.”

Diljit Dosanjh ‘Dil-Luminati’ Concert: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Refutes Claims, Posts Response

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) responded to the situation by clarifying, “We don’t need to provide athletes with reparations because all equipment at JLN (Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium) belongs to SAI.” A representative also stated, “Since the concert ended late at night on Sunday, the arena hadn’t been cleaned properly by Monday morning. The stadium was closed to athletes until November 1, as it had been booked for two days for the Diljit concert, followed by an ISL match.”

They further explained the booking process, stating, “One day’s rent for the venue is taken as a security deposit. After the event, once the venue is returned by the organizer, an audit is conducted by SAI’s maintenance agency, and the cost of any damage incurred is deducted from the security deposit.” The SAI refuted claims regarding mishandling the situation and indicated that the matter had been closed on their part. They also mentioned civic responsibility, noting that attendees paid ticket prices as high as “Rs 1 lakh for this concert, yet they lacked the basic civic sense to dispose of their garbage properly.” (SOURCE: ThePrint)

Despite SAI's response, several athletes remain dissatisfied with how the situation has been managed. They have raised concerns about the inadequately cleaned track and sports arena, as well as disruptions to their training schedules caused by the concert and other event bookings.

This situation raises questions about whether sports facilities should be booked for events like concerts, as these can adversely affect athletes' training.
