A legal confrontation has emerged between prominent Tamil cinema stars Dhanush and Nayanthara, centering on the unauthorised use of film footage in a Netflix documentary. Dhanush has filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and their production house Rowdy Pictures Private Limited.
Nayanthara Vs Dhanush Controversy: Round Up
The lawsuit alleges that Nayanthara used visuals from Dhanush's production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix original documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale without obtaining proper clearance. Dhanush's production company, Wunderber Films Private, has also filed an application seeking permission to sue Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, Netflix's content investment entity in India.
During the legal hearing, Dhanush's lawyer P S Raman presented the case for suing Los Gatos. The opposing counsel, Sathish Parasaran and R Parthasarathy, representing Nayanthara and Netflix, contested the claim. After careful consideration, the judge ultimately allowed Dhanush's request.
Prior to the court filing, Dhanush's legal representative issued a stern warning, stating, "Advise your client to take down the content infringing my client's copyright over the film NAANUM ROWDY DHAAN by using the same in your client's documentary named NAYANTHARA BEYOND THE FAIRYTALE within 24 hours, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of Rs 10 crores against your client and Netflix India."

The actress revealed that her documentary, originally planned to showcase her love life with Vignesh Shivan, incorporated clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhan. Despite a two-year-long battle, Dhanush reportedly refused to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for using the clips.
