What Is Enlisting In South Korea? BTS Members Who Are Set To Get Enlisted For Military Service

BTS members Kim Nam-Joon (RM), Park Ji-min (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V), Jeon Jung-kook (Jungkook), Min Yoon-Gi (Suga) are reportedly all set to get enlisted in the South Korean military. Reports suggest that though Kim Taehyung (V) and Jeon Jung-kook (Jungkook) had the option of postponing their enlistment but they have decided to go for it this year only to minimise gaps with the rest of their team members. If reports of South Korean media are to be believed, members of K-pop group, BTS, Jungkook and V will be going to serve in military service this year and are expected to return to work in 2025. With news of BTS members heading for South Korean military service, enlisting has become one of the most talked about topics.

What Is Enlistment?

Conscription, in simple terms, a compulsory enrollment for service in the country's armed forces has existed in South Korea since 1957. For the unversed, military service is mandatory for all physically fit men aged between 18 and 35 for a period of 18 to 21 months. Men suffering from health conditions or having physical limitations are given administrator roles in the service. This might be the case with BTS member Suga because of his left shoulder surgery that happened in 2020.

What Happens After Enlistment?

Once the individual is enlisted, they are required to serve in the military for a period of at least 18 months. However, the duration can vary depending on the branch they get enlisted in. For the army and the marines, the duration is 18 months, 20 months for the navy and 21 months for the air force.

After their military service commitment, the group is likely to come back around 2025 and their fans can't wait! Ever since the reports surfaced on social media, fans have been wishing for them to come back faster. Many are aso hailing V and Jungkook for making the decision to go for service this year so that they can reunite faster. A user wrote, "If this true brace yourselves till first half of 2024. They made their decision so they can reunite asap. We should respect it and make them feel our support tull thry are back."

"It is time to say that this hurts a lot, but in the same way we will continue to support you always, and we will not stop walking together, so that in the future we will meet and continue to be happy!! BTS FOREVER LOVE YOU," wrote another one.

BTS members Kim Seokjin (Jin) and Jung Hoseok (JHope) are already serving in the military. Reportedly, V and Jungkook will join the service after fulfilling all their scheduled activities like Suga's world tour and Jungkook's solo ventures that are slated for the first half of the year.
