We all want glowing skin but the harsh summer weather takes away all the glow leading to dry and dull skin. From breakouts to tanning and sunburn are some of the skin issues that we all deal with in summer. In light of the same, we spoke to Dr Blossom Kochhar, Founder and Chairperson of Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, Pioneer in Aromatherapy and Beauty Expert for her input on how to ensure glowing skin in summer.

Here are the tips for glowing skin in summer:

Apply Sunscreen Daily

First and foremost, it is very important to wear sunscreen especially while stepping out in the sun. Apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours. Apply sunscreens 30 minutes before going out and reapply regularly while staying in the sun, especially after you get wet. Choose the broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.

Follow Home Remedies

Home remedies might not prove to be instantly effective but they are good in the long run. Several home remedies can help soothe skin and relieve pain when applied. The best are yoghurt, cool milk, mashed cucumber and aloe vera. You can also add a cup of apple cider vinegar while taking a bath.

Cleansing

It is important to double-cleanse your skin. It is one of the secrets to Korean glass skin. Use a gentle cleanser to remove sweat, sunscreen, and impurities without stripping your skin of natural oils. You can then use a face wash that suits your skin type. For summers you can use a gel-based cleanser in case you have oily skin, this will help in reducing dead skin cells that clog pores and lead to pimple outbreaks. For oily skin, you can stick to a homemade oatmeal mask. You can stir ground oatmeal with hot water and add a tablespoon of honey to it. Apply it on the face for 3 minutes and wash it off with water.

Stay Hydrated

We get dehydrated easily in the summer. Drinking enough water a day helps maintain the moisture balance of the body and skin and also assists in detoxification. Drink as much water as possible and also increase the intake of juices (summer health drinks) and liquids in your diet.

Exfoliate In Moderation

Exfoliation helps to get rid of dead skin and makes the skin feel smooth and looking more radiant. It is recommended to scrub or exfoliate in the morning before applying toner, moisturiser, SPF and make-up application. After the exfoliation ensure that you use a hydrating moisturiser to seal in the moisturise and shield the freshly exfoliated skin.
