While it may be easier to avoid applying certain products altogether, doing away with a deodorant during peak summer season (when body odour can make anybody leave the room) is so not possible. Recipe For Bicarb DIY Deodorant

Ingredients

  • Baking soda: 2 tbsp
  • Arrowroot starch/flour: 1/4 cup
  • Unrefined coconut oil: 2 1/2 tbsp
  • Unrefined shea butter: 2 1/2 tbsp
  • Grapefruit essential oil: 6 drops
  • Lavender essential oil: 6 drops
  • Tea tree essential oil (optional)*: 2 drops

Method

Create a double boiler by heating water in a pan and placing a glass bowl over it. Add the coconut oil and shea butter to the bowl after the water starts to boil. Keep stirring the contents till they melt and then add the baking soda, and arrowroot starch. Put the mixture in a jar and let it cool till it becomes somewhat solid. Add the essential oils and stir it once more. Cover this and let it set.

One time application is okay for this natural deodorant but on particularly sweaty days, you can apply it once again, if need be.

Recipe For Bicarb Free DIY Deodorant

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tbsp Grated beeswax
  • 1 tbsp Shea butter/cacao butter
  • 4 tsp white kaolin clay
  • 4 tbsp coconut oil
  • 8 drops of tea tree essential oil
  • 8 drops of cedarwood essential oil
  • 10 drops of lemon myrtle essential oil

While shea butter is anti-inflammatory, coconut oil has anti-bacterial properties and kaolin clay neutralises bad smells while absorbing moisture.

Method

In a double boiler, add beeswax and keep stirring till it melts. Now add the coconut oil and stir it while adding the shea butter. Remove the bowl from heat and start adding 1 tsp clay to it while whisking it. Now let this cool and add the essential oils only then.
