Step 1: Add 2 cups (470 mL) of water to a pot, then place the pot on the stove and set the heat to medium-high. Let the water come to a rolling boil. While distilled water is ideal because it’s free of any minerals that could end up in your hair, tap water will work just as well.
Step 2: Lower the heat to medium and add 3-4 fresh sprigs of rosemary directly into the boiling water. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. After about 15 minutes, the water will start turning a darker amber colour. The longer you leave the sprigs in, the stronger the rosemary water will become. For a more concentrated infusion, you can remove the pot from heat after boiling the rosemary for 5-10 minutes and let it steep for up to 3 hours. You can also add 1 teaspoon (1 g) of whole cloves, known for their antimicrobial properties that may help support scalp health.
Step 3: Remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool completely for about 30 minutes. Once cooled, strain the rosemary water into a spray bottle and discard or compost the remaining rosemary. Your rosemary water is now ready to use! If you prefer, you can store it in a sterilized mason jar in the fridge for up to a week until you're ready to use it.
