A bride starts prepping her skin a couple of months before the wedding day. She wants to look radiant with a natural glow. The key to a glowing face is the skincare routine that one follows.
The thumb rule to deciding the beauty regimen is understanding your skin type. A hydrating face wash might work wonders for dry skin but might not suit a person with an oily face.
Hence, we spoke to Shahnaz Husain, Hair & Beauty Expert, and Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, Aesthetic Physician and Medical Director at Isaac Luxe.
Issues With Oily Skin
Oily skin comes with its own issues like pimples, spots, acne and blackheads. Therefore, the bride needs to get started on the beauty routine a few months in advance.
If you already have acne, you should consult a dermatologist and start using prescribed products at least two to three months before the wedding. There are different types of facial treatments that the brides can opt for. It will help you to reduce acne, blemishes and dark spots.
Oily Skin Routine
Cleansing
The oily dermal layer has open and large pores with coarse texture. Therefore, cleansing is crucial to clean pollutants and dirt that the skin attracts from the environment.
Husain said that an appropriate face wash would not only remove excess oil, but it would also help you get rid of pimples and blackheads. However, you must be wary of the frequent use of soap and water. It will end up disrupting the normal pH and acid-alkaline balance, making the skin more vulnerable to acne and pimples.
Dr Gupta suggested using a medicated face wash specially formulated for oily skin. It will remove the impurities without compromising the natural pH balance of the dermal layer. Bioderma Sebium Gel Moussant purifying and cleansing foaming gel and Dr G sebum control face wash are among the best options.
Scrubbing
Scrubbing is another way to get rid of impurities. It offers deep cleansing of pores, removes dead skin cells and keeps the excess oil away. The process also helps to improve the texture of the dermal layer.
Husain suggested crafting a scrub at home using natural ingredients like rice powder, a pinch of turmeric powder and curd. Apply the mixture on the face and gently rub it in circular motions. Wash it off with running water. Before using the scrub, you must do a patch test on your hands and refrain from using it if you have acne or are undergoing medical treatment.
According to Dr Gupta, brides can also use medicated scrubs containing salicylic acid. However, you must not apply them more than twice a week.
Face Pack
After cleansing and scrubbing comes the face pack that can help to tighten pores. Natural ingredients like Fuller’s Earth (Multani Mitti) can be applied. You can mix it with rose water before application.
It will help to close pores and reduce oiliness. You can apply it thrice a week for better results. You must only take care to wash it off before it completely dries out. Another pack you can try is to mix besan with curd and a pinch of turmeric powder. Wash it off after 20 minutes.

Toning
After cleansing comes toning. Husain said, “Rose water is a powerful skin toner.” You can also mix it with witch hazel and apply it on the face. It will firm up the pores and reduce the secretion of oil.
Dr Gupta suggested, “an alcohol-free toner containing alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic, lactic acid or tea tree oil to deeply cleanse your pores”.
Moisturising
Dr Gupta advised using lightweight moisturisers. This way, you can avoid the eruption of acne at the last moment. Moreover, such moisturisation ensures optimum hydration, soothes the dermal layer and adds other benefits to the skin. Do not forget to apply a lip balm and sunscreen containing silicones.

Diet
One of the most crucial parts of skincare is a healthy diet. Research has concluded that junk and oily food often lead to breakouts and other issues with the dermal layer. Brides must include salad, fruits, yoghurt and whole grains in their meals.
