HZ Tried & Tested: Review of Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip & Cheek Color With Swatches

When Lakme launched its range of9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip & Cheek Color, I was quite tempted to give it a try. The shades it had to offer varied from soft nudes to darker colours with warm undertones, which would make them ideal for all Indian skin tones. However, I was particularly attracted towards the nudes, as I was on the lookout for that perfect MLBB shade for myself. Little did I know that it would turn out to be one of my absolute favourites!

Here, I have reviewed four shades of Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip & Cheek Color - namely Rose Touch, Coffee Lite, Cocoa Soft and Burgundy Lush.

Packaging

The entire range of Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip & Cheek Color comes in a rose gold bottle and is not colour-coded, which makes it difficult to tell which shade it is from the outside. You can only tell the colour by reading name of the shade at the bottom of the bottle. It definitely would have been more convenient if colour of the shade could be shown on the packaging itself.

It comes with a pointed foam tip applicator with a little curve in the center, through which the excess pigment comes out. The pointed tip makes it extremely easy to apply the lipstick on the edges and the corners - giving a clean, sharp and defined look.

This lipsticks of this range are available in 20 shades, which include different shades of nude and darker colours.

Texture

It has a creamy, extremely lightweight texture. The colours are quite pigmented, but the best part is that you can control the amount of colour you want on your lips with the help of applicator wand. Also a single swipe of the nude shades gives an excellent coverage while the darker ones provide an opaque finish, which is a plus point for pigmented lips.

Experience

This range is personally one of my favourites. It feels so lightweight on the lips, that you hardly feel that you have got anything on.

It glides on like butter and settles into a matte finish after a few seconds post application. It’s not an out and out matte, but a soft creamy matte. You get a creamy look when you first apply and it does transfer in the initial few seconds. Once settled, they don’t bleed, feather or seem drying on the lips. You will not have the need to dip the applicator in the bottle for a second time to fill in the lips entirely, as there will be enough pigment for a full coverage the first time itself.

For those with extremely dry lips, I would recommend exfoliating and moisturizing your lips pre-application, as the lipstick may seem drying for you otherwise. The colours in this range are quite pigmented, and their nude shades are perfect if you want to go for a subtle look – maybe for work, or during the day. The darker ones on the other hand are perfect for occasion wear. It is not very drying or patchy, and gives a clean powdery matte finish and does not settle into fine lines.

It has an average staying power and lasts upto 4 to 5 hours if you haven’t consumed a meal, after which it starts fading into a slight tint of colour on your lips. However, the only downside is that it can only withstand light snacks, but wears off post heavy meals from the centre of your lips, leaving behind an outline. I cannot comment on how well it serves as a cheek tint, as I haven’t tried it on my cheeks as yet.

I also have to mention that this product smells absolutely delicious with its mild fragrance of vanilla (not overpowering at all), which disappears soon after application.

Transfer:

These do transfer a tad bit, especially for those with normal to oily skin.

Removal:

It is very easy to take these lipsticks off with a make-up remover.

Swatches

Rose Touch

It is a lovely shade of pink that settles into a pinkish – mauve colour, perfect for medium to dusky skin tones as it doesn’t wash you out or make you look dull. I find it to be the most appropriate for work/day wear.

Coffee Lite

Coffee Lite is brownish – mauve in colour, and is a beautiful nude which can complement all Indian skin tones. For me, it is the go-to nude which goes well with almost all looks, and is one of my absolute favourites!

Cocoa Soft

Cocoa Soft is a dark shade of brown with warm undertone, which will be really flattering to those with medium to darker skin tones. It might look a bit loud on those with extremely fair skin and not suit them very much.

Burgundy Lush

Burgundy Lush is a shade which would complement all skin tones. It’s quite dark and settles into a nice burgundy-coral colour on the lips.

•Fades from the centre of the lips leaving a comparatively darker outline on the outer part of the lips

•Not completely transfer proof

Verdict

The best thing I like about this range is the texture, which is to die for. The fact that it transfers a bit is quite understandable as its not super matte, and hence not very drying. I would rather prefer something like this as opposed to a lipstick which is extremely matte and drying – even if it makes them transfer proof. The shades offered by this range vary from nude to darker ones, making it perfect for different occasions/looks. Most of the shades would suit all Indian complexions, and also a single swipe is enough to achieve a decent coverage on the lips (pigmented ones as well). I would definitely recommend all lipstick lovers to get your hands on these!
